Headliner Cleaning in Hewlett, NY
A headliner is fabric glued to a foam board, and that glue is the whole problem. Get it wet and the adhesive releases, at which point the fabric sags away from the roof and the only real fix is a full replacement. It is the single easiest surface in a car to ruin with enthusiasm.

Overview
Headliner Cleaning done in the right order
So this is a low-moisture job by absolute necessity, not preference. We work in small sections, use the least moisture that will lift the mark, and never let liquid soak through to the backing. Most people who have a sagging headliner got it by trying to clean a stain themselves.
How the job runs
Our headliner cleaning process
Four stages, in this order every time, because each one depends on the one before it.
Assess the fabric and any existing sag
We check whether the adhesive is already failing anywhere, because a headliner that has begun to release will not survive cleaning and you deserve to know that before we start rather than after.
Dry lift first
A soft brush and gentle vacuum lift surface dust and loose soil. On lightly soiled headliners this alone does most of the work, which is exactly the outcome we want.
Section-by-section low moisture
Minimal product applied to a cloth rather than sprayed at the roof, worked in small overlapping sections so nothing gets saturated and no section dries at a different rate to its neighbour.
Blot, dry, no soak
Blotted rather than rubbed, then air moved across the surface. At no point does liquid reach the foam backing, which is the only rule that really matters here.

Local notes
Headliner Cleaning on Long Island
Smoke discolouration is the most common reason we are called, usually on a car somebody has just bought or is about to sell. The other recurring one around Hewlett and the coastal villages is water marking from a sunroof drain that has blocked with leaf debris and overflowed into the cabin, leaving a tide line on the lining. That is worth clearing at the drain as well as cleaning, or it simply happens again next autumn.
We are based at 1534 Broadway in Hewlett and the service is fully mobile, so the car never leaves your driveway. Call (516) 894-2876 and we will tell you honestly what the schedule looks like.

Questions
Headliner Cleaning — FAQs
Will cleaning make my headliner sag?
Not the way we do it, because the moisture never reaches the adhesive. Sagging is caused by saturating the fabric, which is exactly what happens when somebody sprays a cleaner directly at the roof and scrubs. If the adhesive has already begun to fail before we arrive, we will tell you and recommend against cleaning.
Can you remove a water stain from a headliner?
Sometimes. A light tide line from a slow leak often improves substantially. A dark ring from repeated soaking has usually pulled dissolved adhesive and dirt to the edge of the wet area, and that tends to be permanent. We look at it and give you an honest read before quoting.
Will it get rid of cigarette smell in the roof lining?
It helps considerably, since the headliner is one of the largest fabric surfaces in the car and holds a lot of smoke residue. For a heavy smoker's car, headliner cleaning on its own is rarely enough, and it works best combined with full odour treatment.
How long does it take?
Usually forty-five minutes to ninety minutes on its own, and it is most often booked as part of an interior detail rather than by itself. Drying is quick because so little moisture is used.
Can you clean around a sunroof?
Yes, carefully. The area around a sunroof surround is where adhesive is often already weakest, since it has usually seen some moisture. We work more conservatively there and will say so if it looks marginal.
